Dr. William H. Dodson, former superintendent of the Pearl Public Schools and author of If Only I Had Known spoke to a packed house at the September meeting of Lunch with Books.

Dodson was serving as superintendent of the district in October 1997 when a 16-year-old student, Luke Woodham, went on a rampage and shot nine people at the high school campus, killing two of them. He had shot and killed his mother before leaving home that morning.

After much study and reflection, Dodson has developed theories on how to recognize such potentially dangerous students before they strike.

In addition to old friends (Dodson is a native of Crenshaw, and his wife hails from the area as well) and local educators, the group included students from Northwest Mississippi Community College studying criminal law.

At the end of his presentation, Dodson signed copies of his book, and also donated books to the Senatobia Public Library and the library at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
