The dog days of August are here, and that means two things: school has started back, and the Tate County Fair is coming soon.

This year's fair is this Thursday, August 12 through Saturday, August 14. As always, it's being held at the Northwest Farms Arena on Highway 4 West.

Fair organizers have long hoped that the event would bring good, old-fashioned fun back to Tate County, and this year's fair should not disappoint.

Once again this year, the fair starts with a Tate County Pep Rally. Come out and cheer on your favorite school squad in the Northwest Farms Arena.

Thursday is also Wristband Night, where fairgoers can pay a $15 fee and enjoy all they can ride on the midway.

Friday night features the Miss Tate County pageant, and the check in for the adult barbeque contest.

You can beat the heat on Friday and Saturday in the Exhibits Room, while taking in the handiwork of Tate County youth. Exhibits will include artwork, crafts, and botanicals.

Saturday is all competitions, all the time, with contests for the largest watermelon, fresh fruit desserts, cow milking, and barbeque cooking.

Entertainment on the main stage includes Elvis tribute artist Wade Lentz and Mark "The Muleman" Massey.

Batting cages, waterslides, and a pet show are among the other events planned for the fair.

For more information, log on to www.TateCountyFair.org or call 562-4274.

A listing of this weekend's events can be found in the August 10 edition of The Democrat.
