Amy Aftandilian

Amy Aftandilian, 68, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away May 16, 2014, in Stanford, Calif., after a long battle with lung cancer.   Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, at the Senatobia Church of Christ with burial following at Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia.

Dr. Amy loved helping patients at the Parekh Medical Clinic.  She cared for her husband Emil, who preceded her in death, as he fought with Alzheimer’s disease, and she was a “tiger mom” to her son Eddie, always pushing him to do his best.  She loved doting on her granddaughters Charlotte and Clara.

She is survived by her son Eddie Aftandilian, daughter-in-law Catherine Aftandilian, and her granddaughters, Charlotte and Clara Aftandilian.


Leland Wardell Algee

Leland Wardell Algee, 68, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away May 20, 2014. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the Air Force. He was ordained to preach at New Garden Baptist Church in 1969 where he is a member. He was called to preach at Flag Lake and Bogue Chitto Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Faye Pope Algee of Senatobia; daughters, Teresa Williams (Kevin) of Virginia Beach, Va., and Shelia Biffle (David) of Senatobia; son, Marty Algee (Kelly) of Jonesboro, Ark.; mother, Pauline Elizabeth Algee of Southaven; sisters, Sylvia White (George) of Southaven, Sybil Alpuente (James) of Memphis, Tenn., and Wandra Poindexter (Phil) of Greenleaf; brother, Ray Algee of Memphis, Tenn., and grandchildren, Michael, Amber, Trevor, Jordan, Jake, and Kate. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Leland Algee and brothers, Wayne Algee, Bobby Algee, and Terry Algee. 

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society. Services were held Friday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Greenleaf Cemetery.


Sally J. McClinton Carter


Sally J. McClinton Carter, 54, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away May 18, 2014. Funeral services were held at Paradise M.B. Church in Senatobia on Saturday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Carter; daughters, Sandy Martin of Coldwater, Reneé McClinton of Horn Lake, Roshanda McClinton of Senatobia, and Tracey Leverson of Sardis; sons, Rodney McClinton of Senatobia, Jason McClinton of Como, and Randy McClinton of Senatobia; sister, Vivian Ayers of Senatobia; brother, Vernell Robinso of Memphis, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.


Birdie Mae Hudspeth

Birdie Mae Hudspeth, 90, of Sarah, Miss., passed away May 20, 2014 at DeSoto Healthcare. Services were held Friday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Singleton Springs Cemetery. 

She is survived by her son, Wayne Hudspeth of Germantown, Tenn.; sisters, Ailene Sluder of Sylva, N.C. and Jo Wright of Senatobia; brother, Doris Howe of Sarah; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.



James Ross, Jr.


Mr. James Ross, Jr., 62, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away May 18, 2014. Funeral services were held at Ruffin Grove M.B. Church in Como on Saturday, May 24. Interment followed in Longtown Memorial Cemetery in Sarah. 

He is survived by four sisters, Emma Jean Ross of Minneapolis, Minn., Margaret Ross McGhee of Horn Lake, Diana Ross – Simpson of Bartlett, Tenn., and Connie Ross of Como; three brothers, Larry Ross of Minneapolis, Minn., Clea Ross of Sardis, and Duane Ross of Minneapolis, Minn.; and his mother, Rosie Ross of Senatobia.

Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.


Dale Fredrick Spann

Dale Fredrick “Fred” Spann, 68, of Victoria, MS, passed away May 17, 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 p.m. at VFW Post 684 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. 

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Algee of Senatobia; son, Dale P. Spann of Victoria; sisters, Carol Johnson and Martha Powell both of Jonesboro, Ark., and Doris Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Robert Spann of Bartlett, Tenn. and a host of nieces and nephews.
