Helen Barmer

Helen Barmer, 85, of Holly Springs, Miss., passed away June 6, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. 

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Senatobia Memorial Cemetery in Senatobia.  

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church Holly Springs. She is survived by her daughters, Shelly Pulliman of Memphis, Tenn. and Becky May (Teddy) of Mooreville, Miss.; a brother, Joe Patrick of Olive Branch, Miss.; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.



Tracy Danielle Bullard


Tracy Danielle Bullard, 42, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 9 at Hernando Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment followed in Hernando Memorial Park.  

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Bullard of Independence; sons, Lee Brock of Southaven and Sidney Brock of Walls; sister, Stacy Bullard of Batesville; brothers, Tommy Bullard of Nettleton and Wesley Bullard of Independence.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Patricia Bullard.


Kenneth Wayne Dalton


Kenneth Wayne Dalton, 70, of Southaven, Miss., passed away June 8, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. He is survived by his daughters, Joy Dalton of Arkabutla, Miss., and Tiffany Adams of Crystal Springs, Miss.; sons, Jerry Dalton of Independence, Miss., Ronnie Dalton of Arkabutla, Miss., Keith Dalton of Southaven, Miss.; sisters, Linda Clemmons of Horn Lake, Miss., Rose Clemmons of Crenshaw, Miss., and Jean Cooper of Wynne, Ark.; brothers, Tommy Dalton of Sarah, Miss., and Robert Dalton of Odessa, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and special friend Janice Morris of Southaven, Miss. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Dalton.  

Services were held Wednesday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Longtown Cemetery.



Rebecca Scott Holden


Rebecca Scott Holden, 80, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away June 7, 2014 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven.  

She is survived by her sons, John Holden of Winder, Ga., and William Holden of Senatobia; sisters, Grace Jackson of Senatobia, and Kay King of Olive Branch; brother, James Scott of Sardis; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nip and Sarah Scott and her husband, John Wesley Holden.  Burial took place in Looxahoma Cemetery. 

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.



Joe Willie Jackson


Joe Willie Jackson, 61, construction worker, of Como, Miss., passed away June 10, 2014. Funeral services were held at Hickory Grove M.B. Church in Coldwater on Saturday, June 14 at 12 noon. 

He is survived by his wife, Cora Arlisa Jackson of Como; two daughters, Tiara C. Harris and Katrina Garrett, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Andrew Franklin of Horn Lake, Jarvis L. Harris and Justin L. Harris, both of Como; six sisters, Barbara Hawkins, Ivory Jackson, Wonda Jackson, Patricia Conley, Verna Conley, all of Senatobia, and Norcis Walker of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Curtis Jackson of Greenville, Johnny Ray Jackson and Joe Lee Conley, both of Senatobia; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.


Freddie Jean Kirkwood


Freddie Jean Kirkwood, 77, homemaker, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away June 6, 2014. Funeral services were held at Hopewell M.B. Church in Coldwater on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m.

She is survived by three daughters, Lillie Blue, Katherine Walker, and Evelyn Kellum, all of Memphis, Tenn.; four sons, James Edward Kirkwood, Syvell Kirkwood, Kenneth Kirkwood, all of Memphis, Tenn., and Terry Kirkwood of Lincoln, Mass.; sisters, Ruth Jackson, Ollie B. Howell, Mattie Newson, all of Memphis, Tenn., Ethel Milan and Rosie Jean Lesure, both of Coldwater; brother, Freddie Newson of New York, N.Y.; 42 grandchildren; 41 and great grandchildren.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.


Lady Bird Merritt

Lady Bird Merritt, 64, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away on June 8, 2014. Funeral services were held at Mt. Calm M.B. Church in Arkabutla on Sunday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, James Merritt; sons, Kenneth Ramsey, David Merritt, Cedric Merritt, all of Coldwater, and Michael Merritt of Robinson, Ill.; sisters, Linda Short, Quincy Gordon, Elvira Bolton Sader, all of Coldwater, Ann Mays of Independence, Jerlean Bargan of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Marshall Mays of Olive Branch; brothers, Van Lewis Ramsey, Jr. of Tunica, Elijah Ramsey and Haven Ramsey of Washington, Ind., Rickey Ramsey, Stanley Ramsey, Anthony Ramsey, all of Coldwater, Van Mays and Percy Mays Jr., both of Independence; 13 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.


James Randall Scruggs


James Randall Scruggs, 59, of Independence, Miss., passed away June 9, 2014. Services were held Wednesday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery.  

He is survived by his son, Barton C. Scruggs (Sydna); father, James Eason Scruggs; brother, Clark D. Scruggs (Debbie) all of Independence; three step grandchildren, Jake, Syd, and Hayden; niece, Christina Wilbanks (Josh) of Independence; nephew, Jeremy Scruggs (Melanie) of Chicago, Ill., and beloved friend, Debra McCarthy of Olive Branch. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Muriel Linette Scruggs. 

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. 

Memorials may be sent to the West Clinic.
