Billy Lamar Baker, 69, of Hernando, Miss., entered into rest after a brief battle with cancer on Thursday, March 6, 2008.
He is survived by his daughter Wende and her husband, William Holland Rachels, Jr. of Rockledge, Fla.; his son, Dr. Lee House Baker, and wife, Susie Morris, of Augusta, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Kristen Holland Rachels, William Holland Rachels, III, Boyd Baker Rachels, Lee House Baker, Jr., Mary Ellis Baker, Alden Elizabeth Baker and Benjamin Morris Baker. He is also survived by brothers, James Lee Baker and wife, Thelma of Cottonville, Miss., Ralph Edwin Baker and wife, Corrine of Cottonville, Miss., Jerry Savage Baker and wife, Nanaette of Arkabutla, Miss.; one sister, Martha Baker McKay of Leaskville, Miss.
Funeral services were held at Christ Community Church in Hernando, Miss. on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 3 p.m.
Marvin N. Blaul
Marvin N. Blaul, 87, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away March 10, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. He was a manager of a glass company and a USA Marine Corp, World War II veteran and served in Iwo Jima.
He leaves behind his wife, Mrs. Anna Mae Bledsoe Blaul and his son, Tony Queen of Senatobia, Miss.
Aslee Crowder
Aslee Crowder, 77, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away March 7, 2008 at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel in Senatobia, Miss. Interment was in New Pleasant Hill cemetery in Coldwater, Miss.
She was a housewife and a member of New Pleasant Hill M. B. Church in Coldwater.
She is survived by a special companion, Mr. William Shaw, for 43 years; one sister, Annie Mae Veazey of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Melvin Douglas Green
Melvin Douglas Green, 67, of Tupelo, Miss., died at his home after an extended illness on March 11, 2008. Services were held Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. Burial was in Carter Sunset Memorial Garden in Thyatira, Miss.
He was a teacher and he began his teaching career in Tate County.
He is survived by his two sons: Parrish Lavern (Cheryl) Green of Charlotte, N.C. and Stanley Lamont (Krystel) Green of Gastonia, N.C.; and by one granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Green of Gastonia, N.C.
Mary D. Lane
Mary D. Lane, 90, of Senatobia, Miss. passed away March 6, 2008. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 10 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia, Miss. with burial following at Surrette Cemetery in Arkabutla, Miss. Mrs. Lane was a member of First Baptist Church in Senatobia. She was the widow of W.J. Lane, Sr. She is survived by two sons, W.J. Lane, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M. and Dennis Lane of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Virginia Haynes of Hernando, Miss. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Nona Iris Grisham Norman
Nona Iris Grisham Norman of Senatobia, Miss., formerly of Como, Miss., passed away March 9, 2008 at the Senatobia Convalescent Center. Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 12 at Cutshall-Iuka Funeral Home. Burial was in New Salem Cemetery in Iuka, Miss.
She is survived by her son, Fred T. Norman and wife, Terri of Senatobia, Miss.; daughter, Frances N. King and husband, Jimmy of Sardis, Miss.; three sisters, Mary Lou Bugg, Joan Woods, and Jean Tigner. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Patrick King, Jeremy King, Taylor Norman, and Jacob Norman; and by three great-grandchildren, Adam King, Lilly Grace King and Molly King.
Ray-Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis, Miss. was in charge of arrangements.
Cynthia Elizabeth Shockley
Cynthia Elizabeth Shockley, 54, of Tunica, Miss., passed away March 9, 2008 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Cynthia worked as a supervisor for First Financial Bank in Senatobia, Miss.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 12 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
She leaves behind her husband, Charles Shockley of Tunica, Miss.; daughter, Angela Murphree and husband, Andrew of Hernando, Miss.; sister, Pamela M. Hunter and husband, Paul of Clarksdale, Miss.; brother, James Guy McDaniel, III of Houston, Texas; and one grandchild.
Gary White
Gary White, 45, Tyro, Miss., formerly of Southaven, Miss., passed away March 6, 2008. Services were held Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Tyro Baptist Church in Tyro, Miss. where he was a member. Graveside services followed at 4 p.m. in Poplar Springs Church Cemetery near Vardaman, Miss.
Mr. White leaves his wife, Betty Lynn White; his sons, Stephen Lucas White and William Jacob White, all of Tyro; his parents, Bob and Mary Alice White of Chadbourn, N.C.; sister, Becky Berson of Kalispell, Montana; and his brother, Master Sgt. Jody White of Eugene, Ore.
