Who do the boards work for?

Several public boards meet here in Tate County, including two school boards, two Boards of Aldermen, plus planning commissions for the City of Senatobia and Tate County. Each board has its own rules on who is allowed to address their meeting.

For instance, the City of Senatobia has a place on its agenda for visitors who would like to address the board but haven't called ahead to be placed on the agenda. Coldwater's board has no such provision.

That being said, the boards of public bodies work for us - the public. Their rules on who can address the board can be suspended by a vote of the committee and citizens can be allowed to speak.

We are not advocating that citizens be allowed to completely ignore rules which boards have put in place. We are suggesting that, in instances like the large group of parents who tried to talk to the county school board last week, there are ways their concerns can be heard.
