Ruthie "Akins" Anderson

Ruthie "Akins" Anderson, 56, Medical Technician, of Como, Miss., passed away January 30, 2010 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville, Miss.

Services were held at 12 noon Saturday, February 6, at Hammond Hill M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial followed in Hammond Hill Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his son, Richard Akins of Memphis, Tenn.; mother, Lizzie Glover of Como, Miss.; sisters, Yvonne A. Rodgers of Senatobia, Betty Barnes of Dundee, Miss., and Marie Baker of Batesville, Miss.; five brothers Andrew Akins of Como, James Glover of Memphis, Tenn., Terry Glover of Memphis, Tenn., William Glover of Senatobia; and two grandchildren.

Dorothy W. Berry

Dorothy W. Berry, 70, passed away February 1, 2010. Services were held on February 5 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Senatobia, where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery in Sarah.

Mrs. Berry leaves her sons, Richard Lee Berry of Germantown, Tenn., Marvin Scott Berry of Valparaizo, Ind., Ronald Brent Berry of Orem, Utah, Stephen Ray Berry of Southaven, Miss.; her mother, Lottie Mae Welch of Sarah; her sister, Janice Nell Lovett of McComb, Miss.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fulton Lee Berry; a son, Donald Kent Berry; her sisters, Betty Jean Welch and Susan Welch; and her granddaughter Boni Ann Berry.

Active pallbearers were Zach Berry, Eli Brry, Brandon Berry, Bryce Berry, Bobby Berry, Devin Berry, and Allen Massey. Honorary pallbearers were Blake Berry and Christopher Berry.

Francis Owen Cluts

Francis Owen Cluts was born January 22, 1932 in Normal, Illinois. He died January 27, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto. He was preceded in death by a son, James, and a brother, Ray.

He is survived by his wife of five years, Mary Aldridge Cluts. Owen leaves two daughters, Sandy (Joe) Galati and Susan (Dan) O'Shsughnessy; three sons, Mark (Natalie), David, all of Illinois, and John (Stacia) of Florida. He leaves a sister, Marie Dayton of Mason, Ohio, and a brother, Keith (Shirley) of Illinois. He also leaves 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-children, Lynn (Ed) Teague of Southaven, Miss., Neil (Bunny) Aldridge, and Randall (Symantha) Aldridge of Strayhorn; seven step-grandchildren; and six dstep-great-grandchildren.

Owen worked for Argonne National Laboratory for 35 years in the Graphic Arts Department in Lemont, Ill., where for many years he was a Boy Scout Leader. He loved to bowl and watch any and all sports on television. He loved the church and took an active part in service for his Lord.

Services were held Sunday, January 31, at 3 p.m. at Crockett Church of Christ. Burial followed in Braceville, Ill. Active pallbearers were Mark, John and Dave Cluts; Neil and Randall Aldridge and Ed Teague. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Spencer, J.L. Beard, Tom Osborn, Jimmy Freeze, Luther Red, Ed Bryant, Ralph Morris and Travis Gullick.

Mary Lee Coleman

Mary Lee Coleman, a long time resident of Tate County, Miss., went home to be with our Lord Saturday, January 30, 2010 after a short illness.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mary was a retired seamstress of the William Carter Company where she worked for 28 years. She was born April 28, 1916 to Charlie and Etta Terry in Athens, Alabama, and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Senatobia. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie Lee Coleman, and twin sons, James Edward and Jimmy Edmund Coleman.

She leaves four sons, Gene Coleman, Otto Coleman (Sarah), Larry Coleman (Margaret), O'Neal Coleman (Kathy); and four daughters, Anita Woolfolk (Doc), Alice Castillo (Nephtali), Kaye Hanna (Mike), and Carol Saunders (Billy). She leaves many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the Looxahoma Baptist Church. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Independence, Miss. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Elvira Dearing

Elvira Dearing, 87, of Coldwater, Miss. passed on January 31, 2010. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was held at Woodside Cemetery in Thomasville, Mo.

Mrs. Dearing is survived by her daughter Eva Daniels (Herman) of Senatobia, Miss.; two sons, Duane Combs (Charlene) of Perry, Ga., and Frank Combs (Nancy) of Bellville, Ill.; two brothers, Wilford Gall and Virgil Gall both Morton, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Willie Mailey Hawkins

Willie Mailey Hawkins, 89, formerly of Coldwater, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the MS Veteran's Home in Oxford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and was retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission where he worked for more than 20 years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Independence, Miss.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by two sons, Donald (Paula) Hawkins of Coldwater and Ronald Hawkins of Huntsville, Ala.; four grandchildren, Shelly (Jeff) Scott of Independence, Andrew Hawkins of Baltimore, Md., Christina (Shannon) Cox of Montgomery, Ala. and Brad Hawkins of Senatobia; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Scott, both of Independence; and two sisters, Imogene Stewart of Senatobia and Linnie Benson of Savannah, Ga. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Independence, Miss.

Jim Elizah Virgil, Jr.

Jim Elizah Virgil, Jr., 89, passed away January 29, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Services were held Saturday, February 6, at 12 noon at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Virgil leaves his son, Charles Virgil of Como, Miss.; and his sisters, Carrie Bell Hicks of Memphis, Tenn., Hazel Ross of Chicago, Ill., Mildred Ware of Madison, Ill. and Celeste Hallamon of Memphis, Tenn.
