The "2006 Legislative Shoot-Out" was held recently at the championship quality Reunion Golf Course in Madison and over 100 golfers joined together to "putt with a purpose" and raise money for a very worthy cause - diabetes.
The tournament, benefiting the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi (DFM), began in 1993 as the Charlie Williams Charity Golf Tournament and became the "Legislative Shoot-Out" in 2001. The "Legislative Shoot-Out" has become an enormous success as each year the field of players increases.
The eagerness of the golfers to play the Reunion Course is amazing," said Charlie Williams (second from right), Chief of Staff, Office of the Governor and member of the DFM Advisory Board. "Everyone loved playing this course and had a tremendous time. We are all looking forward to 2007!"
The proceeds from this tournament help fund "Helping Hands", the DFM patient assistance program that provides free emergency assistance with diabetes-related medications and supplies to the underinsured and uninsured.
Every penny raised by the foundation stays in the state to fund research, provide services and education, and to send children with diabetes to camp. DFM is the only diabetes organization that is dedicated to every Mississippian-adults and children-living with diabetes
