    Chiefs defeat Heritage

    The Magnolia Heights Chiefs football team defeated the Heritage Academy Patriots 45-14, Friday, October 2, in a conference game at Columbus.

    Starters for the Chiefs on offense were: Adam Webb adn Mike Powell at Tight Ends, Hunter Miller and Andy Gibson at Tackles, Jimmy Braswell and Tyler Lacefield at Guards, Ben Lipscomb at Center, Mac McDonald at Quarterback, Tyler Graves and Ben Billingsley at Halfbacks, and Josh Faught at Fullback.

    On defense the starters were: Webb and Taz Zettergren at Ends, Jake O'Bannon and Richard Price at Tackles, Braswell, Faught and McDonald at Linebackers, Justin Faulkner and Eric Chavez at Cornerbacks, and Billingsley and Graves at Safeties.

    Also seeing action were: Adam Taylor, Rob Lishman, Asher Gagne', Alex Geeslin, Kyle McKinney, Will Morgan, Hugh Taylor, Shelby Millwood, Jake Moyer, Mitchell Ward, Al Price, Thomas Womble and Patrick Benson.
    In the first quarter, Mac McDonald intercepted a pass andd returned it from about the 40 to the 17. QB McDonald scrambled for a score with 4:47 left. Will Morgan kicked the extra point to give the Chiefs a lead of 7-0.

    Later in the quarter, McDonald intercepted a pass and returned it from about the 50 to the 13 on fourth and 3 from the 6. Morgan booted a 22 yard passed and returned it from the 12 to increase the lead to 10-0 with 51 seconds left.
    The Chiefs kicked off, held, forced a punt and got possession on the H 46. With McDonald passing to TE Adame Webb, FB Josh Faught, and Taz Zettergren, the Chiefs drove to the 10. HB Tyler Grves thenran around the right end for a score with 7:37 left in the second quarter. Morgan converted to increase the lead to 17-0.

    The Patriots received teh ensuing kickoff and drove for a score that came on a 45 yard pass from Will Sweetenbert to Will West. Dylan Mims kicked the extra point to narrow the lead to 17-7.

    Later in the quarter, a pss interception by Ben Billingsley gave the Chiefs possession on the MH 48. With McDonald passing to Graves and Zettergren the Chiefs drove to the 1. Graves then ran around right end for a score with 1:44 left. Morgan converted to increase the lead to 24-7.

    In the third quarter, the Chiefs had possession on the MH 17 following a punt. With Graves, Faught, and McDonald doing the running, the Chiefs drove to the H 29. McDonald then fired a pass to Webb for a score with 2:50 left. Morgan converted to increase the lead to 31-7.

    Later in the quarter, Zettergren intercepted a pass and returned it from about the H 40 to the 11. Two carries by Billingsley gained to the 1. Billingsley then ran off the right side for a score with 1:12 left. Morgan converted to increase the lead to 38-7.

    The Patriots received the ensuing kickoff and drove for a score that came on a 29 yard pass from Sweetenbert to Glen Akins. Mims converted to narrow the lead to 38-14.

    The final score for the Chiefs came on a 1 yard run by Graves with 6:50 left in the fourth quarter. Morgan converted.

    The Chiefs defeated a scrappy Patriot team.

    The Chiefs are now 4-3 and 1-3 in the conferene. Friday, October 9, the Chiefs will play Lee Academy at Clarksdale, beginning at 7 p.m. The Chiefs must continue to play good ball in order to win this conference game.
