A collision between two big trucks shut down Interstate 55 for several hours last Wednesday.
According to Senatobia Fire Chief Gary Copeland, the two trucks - an 18-wheeler and a smaller bob truck - were traveling southbound when they "rubbed up against each other," causing the trucks to cross into the northbound lane.
One of the trucks was carrying U.S. Mail, and Copeland said the Deputy Postmaster came to the accident scene to supervise the transfer of mail to a second truck so it could continue to its delivery point.
The mail truck was forced over the railing on the east side of the highway.
Copeland said one driver had to be cut out of his truck and airlifted to The Med.
No fatalities were reported.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 55 were closed for approximately five hours following the accident.
A second accident involving three vehicles was reported just south of the earlier crash. It was attributed to the traffic from the first incident, and was much less serious.
Local firemen joined law enforcement officials directing traffic through town during the shutdown.
