Due to extremely dry weather conditions, Tate County has been placed under a burn ban, effective immediately, according to Tate County Fire Coordinator Kim Brownlee.

According to Brownlee, the ban is expected to last through July 31, barring significant rain fall. Under the ban, only controlled agricultural burns are permitted.

Brownlee said that fireworks will still be permitted as of this time.

Any person who knowingly and willfully violates a burning ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined not less than $100 and not more than $500. Section 49-19-351 of Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended.

Most of Northwest Mississippi is under a ban at this time.
