Just in time to finish up your back-to-school shopping, the City of Senatobia is helping shoppers out just a little bit. City leaders voted last month to participate in the state's Sales Tax Holiday this Friday and Saturday, July 30 and 31. Eligible items from the state Department of Revenue's list will not have state sales tax charged on them during that time. There is, however, a $100 cap of the cost of each eligible item. Most clothing, shoes, and school supplies are eligible for the discount, but accessories such as backpacks, hair barrettes, and jewelry are not. Officials hope that this small discount on items will help parents prepare their children for the back-to-school season, as well as encourage them to shop for those supplies locally. Discounts on the state sales tax, which is seven cents on the dollar, are taken at the register. A full list of eligible and non-eligible items can be found at the Mississippi State Department of Revenue website, www.dor.ms.gov.
