Coldwater's Trell Kimmons and his United States teammates set an all-time American record in the Olympic Games in London en route to a silver medal finish. Kimmons, who represented the United States in the men's 4x100-meter relay along with Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Ryan Bailey finished the relay in 37.04 seconds, the fastest Americans had ever run the relay by 0.36 seconds. The Americans' time of 37.04 seconds tied the world record the Jamaican team set at the world championship's last year, but even that could not match up with the Jamaican team of Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt, which bested itself and shattered its own record, turning in a blazing time of 36.84 seconds, becoming the first team in the history of the event to break the 37-second barrier. Kimmons ran the first leg of the relay for the United States against Jamaica's Carter, and built an American lead going into the second leg, but Blake and Bolt, who ran Jamaica's third and fourth legs, respectively, were too much for the American team to hold off. Kimmons, along with Gatlin, Jeff Demps and Doc Patton also finished with a then-American record time of 37.38 seconds in the qualifying round.
