According to Lance, the body will be taken to Jackson for a full autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Lance said that, because of the condition in which the body was found, authorities are still unable to make a positive identification.
But they believe it is likely that the body could be that of 31-year-old Patrick Antonio Jones, of Tate County.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department and Tate County Sheriff's Department had been searching for Jones after his family reported him missing Wednesday night.
Jones was believed to have been missing for several days. His car was found near the county line and is being processed by the Tate County Sheriff's Office for clues into the investigation.
Lance said that the investigation is now being looked at as a murder, but there is no information on any potential suspects at this time, the investigation is still in its very early stages.
